Another symptom is that if you go to Start, right click on my computer, choose Properties, then go to the System Restore tab, you get an error about RunDLL not being BLEEPINGCOMPUTER NEEDS YOUR HELP! I'd like to hope that running system restore will help me fix all the problems, but it might not.

system restore is still giving me the same messages. It ran perfectly, the research assistant who had created the required files copied them off the drive and that was that.
