I noticed that under my gmail account, view in lock screen was off, so i turned it on and tried to email my self, locked the screen, waited and presto. Both my iPad2 and iPhone 4S (tied to the same account of course) at odd times will make a notification type chime but not the standard notification sound. I did not have the issue on my GS4, and I pretty much have all the same apps installed. Just lately I cannot respond via web sites on the internet.
